I (Kurt Davis) am an entrepreneur, business development expert, and social impact worker. In 2017, I traveled Africa and volunteered at many emerging business accelerators. There, I saw the entrepreneurship gives people hope. At that time I started Kakuma Ventures www.kakumaventures.com to empower and finance local entrepreneurs in the Kakuma refugee camp and also worked to create the Southern Africa Venture Partnership www.savp.co in Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
I have spent my 20-year career between Silicon Valley and Asia (Japan, China, SE Asia) building and investing in tech companies. From 2009-2016, I was the first business hire at Boku a mobile payments company where I led global business development and also served as GM of Asia. During that time I closed over 100 deals including partnerships with Apple, Microsoft, Sony, Spotify, Tencent, and Softbank.
Previous to Boku, I worked in finance doing corporate venture capital at Mitsui and GE Hong Kong. From 2003-2005 I lived in Shanghai where I studied Chinese and started a mobile phone games company. I have lived abroad over 12 years including in Japan (twice), China, Singapore, London, and Africa. Originally from the South, I am a graduate of Davidson College and Duke Fuqua Business School.
